About Axe River Books

Inspired by the River Axe , flowing through the Mendip Hills for millions of years, Axe River Books exists to champion local voices and celebrate literature shaped in the South West of England.

We are passionate about supporting writers at all stages, from emerging talent to established authors, and about building a vibrant, inclusive community around creativity. All out cover art is commisioned from local artists and our writers have strong ties to the region.

As a Community Interest Company (CIC), profit is reinvested into future projects that further our mission: publishing great writing, creating opportunities for writers, and strengthening the South West’s literary landscape.

One of the defining issues facing creatives in the South West is connection. But it's the wild, rural qualities that also make for brave, adventurous and resiliant people. If you are a writer based in the South West and want to join a welcoming creative community then join our newsletter for inspiration, get togethers and news.

Our first publications are now available, including Axe River Books Short Story Prize: Anthology 1, When The Numbers Don’t Add Up, and Mouthy, which are all available to buy in our online store.
